Pillar 04 · Protect

The warning, in the language of home.

During the monsoon, official warnings become short voice calls in Chakma, Marma and Tripura. Trained students make sure every family understands, and has a plan.

Our safety rule

Agrani never creates warnings.

Each official warning level has a message template verified in advance by two native speakers. When a warning is issued, the matching template goes out. Speed and accuracy never depend on live translation.

How a warning travels

From the Meteorological Department to every home in the hills.

Agrani builds on the systems that already exist. There is no parallel warning system, only a shorter path to the people the warning is for.

  1. Official source

    A warning is issued

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department or the Department of Disaster Management issues a heavy-rain or landslide warning.

  2. Verified in advance

    The matching template is chosen

Every warning level already has a message in Chakma, Marma and Tripura, checked by two native speakers before the season began.

  3. Any phone

A free voice call goes out

Short voice messages reach basic phones. No smartphone, no internet and no reading are needed.

  4. At home

    A Messenger explains

Trained students explain what the warning means and help the family follow the emergency plan they made together.

Who the Messengers are

Children who carry knowledge home.

50%+

Girls, at least

Climate Messengers and Club leaders are at least half girls. Leadership is built in, not added on.

May

Trained before the rains

The “Prepare” module covers warning signs on the hillside, safe places and the family plan.

Risks asked of a child

Messengers share information at home, with adult supervision. Their job is understanding, not rescue.

The family emergency plan

Made together, before the monsoon.

Every pilot household makes a plan with its Messenger. We measure how many households have one, and how many know their safe place.

  • Know the warning signs on the hillside around home
  • Know the family’s safe place, and the safe route to it
  • Know who to call, and who will help elders and small children
  • Know what each official warning level means, in your own language

Every warning understood, in every home.

We need a mobile operator for free voice calls, and partners in disaster management to bring this to the first ten schools.
